Areas of Specialism:
Individual therapy for clients with
Alzheimer's and other dementias
ASD, especially Asperger's
Parkinson's
and therapeutic support for these clients' families.
A particular speciality is working with those for whom Yiddish is the 'mother-language'. I speak Yiddish and can use Yiddish song and story.
My clients have included Holocaust survivors, and as well as Yiddish speakers I also have experience with clients from Vienna, and Budapest and Bratislava who speak German and Hungarian - I have basic knowledge of these languages (also French and Italian). I have found that using the client's first language, as well as English when desired, has been a great help in promoting communication and expression; and aids the sharing and appreciation of each individual's background and culture.
Personal Approach:
My focus is on enabling communication and expression, and affirming the sense of self, through a supportive therapeutic relationship. The therapy is Person-Centred, based on listening and empathy; where and as suitable and desired, I incorporate the use of music, story, and movement.
